Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) became functioning as a small radio-tracer laboratory during 1961, today stands on a solid infrastructure. BINA is a specialized national agricultural research Institute and have the mandate to use nuclear tools in agricultural research. It is now prepared to face current and future challenges in crop production sector using nuclear and other advanced techniques. By the peaceful use of these tools, scientists of the Institute have been doing research in various agricultural disciplines with major emphasis on varietal improvement of crops, management of soils and fertilizers, development of appropriate techniques to improve quality and quantity of crops, development of methods for controlling diseases and insect pests and management of water. Using radiation technique, the Institute has already developed 56 improved mutant varieties of different crops. The developed crops have been released by the National Seed Board of Bangladesh for large-scale cultivation in the farmers' field.
